Wheelers in the Dolomites, last day. 09-07-2024.

Tuesday 09 July: Our week in the Dolomites is sadly coming to an end but we went out with one last ride, driving up the Valparola and parking up before descending for 10 miles into Cortina. It was apparent that this town had affluent citizens with expensive designer shops – Rebecca said she was sad that the hotel was over an hour’s drive away! We had a nice drink whilst watching the locals and tourists go about their day and Cortina had a lovely feel to it.
The return up the Falzarego was a full 18.5 km and I personally love this climb as it doesn’t have double digit slopes. We all had food and drink up the top and Dave and I bought some gifts in the excellent shop. The drive back was tedious and everyone agreed that this is the busiest it has been with traffic – bloody tourists are ruining the place!
Back at the hotel, it was time to pack the bike up and prepare for our return tomorrow, leaving at around 7am for the long journey across four countries.
We have all had a wonderful time in Dolomites and met equally wonderful people – this region seems to energise the body with its clean air and warm hospitality and I’m sure we will all be back for more in the future. Thank you for reading and hopefully see you on Friday for the club 10!
